Choose your project! Both are included in the pattern, and either one is about as simple as it gets—just knit, knit, knit. When you turn garter stitch on its side, the little ridges create a ribbed effect that is nice and stretchy, making the handwarmers easy to fit, with just a wee bit of seaming around the thumbs. The long-tail cast-on method, the knit stitch, adding a new ball, binding off, and weaving in tails.

Yarn:
Scarf: Approx. 440 yds/400m of worsted-weight yarn (ball band should suggest a gauge of approx. 18 stitches = 4"/10cm). 100 yds/91m of worsted-weight yarn (ball band should suggest a gauge of approx. 18 stitches = 4"/10cm.)
Handwarmers: Approx. 100 yds/91m of worsted-weight yarn (ball band should suggest a gauge of approx. 18 stitches = 4"/10cm.)
Needles:
Scarf: US 8 (5mm) needles (straight or circular), or size needed to obtain gauge.
Handwarmers: US 8 (5mm) needles (straight or circular), or size needed to obtain gauge.
Notions:
Locking marker or safety pin (handwarmers only).
Blunt darning needle to finish.
