Knit the 2025 Shetland Wool Week hat in a workshop with Stephanie!

The Shetland Wool Week hat tradition began in 2014. Knitters from all over the world eagerly anticipate each year's pattern, the proceeds of which help to secure the future of the SWW event which is so important to Shetlanders and visitors! Kitting the hat is a great way to support the event, and learn Fair Isle Knitting!

This workshop will cover gauge, reading a chart, tensioning with two yarns, and color dominance.

Cost: $75 (Includes swatch materials)
When: Saturdays, 1-3pm (6 hours total)

September 13th: Session 1: Swatching and Brim

Gauge matters in Fair Isle! This pattern is written with one stitch count, so you will choose needle size based on the size hat you want!
We'll knit cheater swatches in the round, block and measure them. Our goal is to begin the brim/ribbing of the hat.

September 20thSession 2: Body
Students should be ready to switch to their larger needles and begin the Fair Isle pattern!

September 27thSession 3: Crown
Decreasing in pattern. We'll begin the final portion of our projects and work toward completion.

Class Level: Advanced Beginner. Colorwork experience is not necessary, but students should be comfortable knitting in the round on a small gauge (US 1-2).

Yarn: We make it easy! We have SWW kits with Jamieson and Smith 2 ply in two colorways to choose from OR fingering weight yarn suitable for colorwork in 8 colors.
Patten: Required. Purchase a kit with the pattern or at https://www.shetlandwoolweek.com/knitting-pattern/

Needles: You will need 2 sizes of your preferred needles for working small circumference in the round. The pattern recommends a range of 2.25mm - 3.25mm depending on the size you wish to achieve and your gauge.

Class size - minimum of 4, maximum of 8. We reserve the right to cancel classes and issue refunds when our minimum enrollment is not met.
