Harrisville Designs TURBINE is a three-ply bulky weight 100% wool yarn named because the three plies spiral together like water moving through a pipe. To make TURBINE, Harrisville combined two ends of flyWHEEL on the spinning frames using a technique called mock-twisting, to create a lofty base, then aggressively plied three strands together. The end result is a bulky weight wool yarn that feels light and relaxed but holds its structure, with great stitch definition. The deeply heathered colors inspired by nature are almost tweedy with muted blue-greens of a lichen-covered riverbank, warm russet of autumn sedge, soft grey of overcast water, earthy depth of a forest floor after rain.

TURBINE is part of Harrisville's Hydroline collection, and a portion of proceeds from every skein goes toward Historic Harrisville's hydropower restoration project. Harrisville is the only 19th-century textile community in America that survives in its original form, a National Historic Landmark kept alive because one person refused to let the looms go silent when the mill closed in 1970. That principled commitment to place feels familiar to us. At Sugar River Yarns, we believe the rivers and watersheds we're named for deserve the same care. TURBINE is beautiful yarn with a real story behind every skein, and it knits up fast to make a very thoughtful gift or a gorgeous heirloom weekend sweater for yourself!
