Summer is in full swing here in Wisconsin and we've been welcoming tourists to our little corner of the Driftless, many of whom are troll hunters! Mount Horeb holds many events over the summer, which can make parking a bit of a struggle during those weekends. July 18-19 is the annual Mount Horeb Art Fair, an event we look forward to sponsoring each year. In addition to over 175 juried art booths, there are food trucks and music! If you follow us on Instagram, you may have seen a few photos from my vacation to France. We were fortunate to visit before the dangerous heat wave. My daughter and I enjoyed a blend of relaxing (and knitting!) at sidewalk cafés and visiting historic sites and museums. Of course, I had to sneak a little fiber exploration into the itinerary! I managed to visit Lil Weasel in Paris, where I found a charming set of buttons for my Felix Cardigan I'm knitting out of Berroco Mercado. I'm hoping these buttons are the motivation I need to finish!
On the topic of travel, I am excited about all of the interest we've received for our upcoming Lake District retreat! We have added more information to the retreat page on our website. For a glimpse of Grasmere, I finally (with Ellie's help) uploaded a bit of a vlog/travel recap video of my March trip to the UK to our YouTube channel. One of the questions we've received is whether or not Susan's class is appropriate for a beginner, and it is! You don't need colorwork experience to participate in Susan's workshop, and you can work at your own pace on the retreat project. Some room types have sold out, but we still have some single occupancy and shared rooms left! If you are interested, I encourage you to reserve your spot soon!
In addition to the retreat, we have added more classes and events, including a really special evening with local romance author Amy Knupp. I hope you can join us on July 31st! Amy will be reading from her new book, in which her main character Anna crochets and belongs to a fiber arts club called Needles & Nightcaps - details below. SRY's own Ellie designed a crochet pattern inspired by Anna, which will also debut at the event!
